This facility was built in 1962 by a consortium of banks and insurance
companies to serve as a record storage vault in the event of
a nuclear war. In 1994 the vault and surrounding property was
purchased from Connecticut Underground Vault, Inc, a disaster
recovery and records management company. Our love of wine coupled
with the shortage of quality commercial wine cellars in the United
States led us to transform the "vault" into Horse Ridge
Cellars.
Located on a beautiful 127 acre horse farm in
rural Connecticut, the "vault" lies 15 feet below the
ground and is approximately 90,000 cubic feet. From the moment
one enters the facility through its Mosler Safe Company 12 ton,
19 inch steel vault door, a sense of security and dedication
is quite evident. Horse Ridge Cellars offers wine storage capability
to meet a variety of needs.
We provide customer designated shelving
as well as custom storage boxes designed for any number/size
bottles. For restaurants and importers, we have areas reserved
for special storage arrangements. While your wine is kept in
our facility it will be fully insured against theft and breakage.
